I am from Auckland and while I completed my Physiotherapy studies at Auckland University of Technology, I have lived in the United States on and off. Not to mention from an Irish family. So you’ll hear a ‘funny’ accent!
I have worked in a variety of areas including: stroke rehabilitation, acute respiratory care and private musculoskeletal practice. Additionally, I worked with Bay Olympic Football Club, Mount Albert Ponsonby Football Club and am currently the first team physio for the Western Springs Womens Premiere Football team and club physio for Te Atatu Football Club.
Through my own experimentation, work with clients and further education the approach I currently use centres around active involvement from the individual I am helping. This means I do my best to teach and guide clients through their rehab process with the end goal of independence from me post injury. My hope is that those I work with, finish having an understanding of their injury, how it may have happened and how the resolution of their injury integrates into their physical life presently and in the future.
My approach emphasises identification of specific patterns that may have been lost through injury.
Once identified, resolution of injury focuses on reconnecting these patterns to the individuals desired goals through the use of specific manual therapy, dry needling, exercises and functional rehabilitation i.e. if you want to run again then we work on running!
Specific areas of interest include motor control assessment, gait analysis, neurological injuries, thoracic outlet syndrome, neuromuscular retraining, active flexibility development, strength and conditioning.
My long term goal is to develop a valid and reliable way of measuring across all populations the baseline capacity needed to independently mobilise.
If you bump into me on a day off you’re probably out hiking, climbing, at the gym experimenting or playing soccer!
